Gate’s History: From Bter to an International Exchange

Gate traces its beginnings to 2013 and the exchange Bter. Founder Lin Han, also known as Dr. Han, describes launching Bter as the predecessor of Gate.

This early history predates the later Gate.io brand. The distinction matters when reading different dates: the exchange’s origins and the launch of a particular brand or international platform are separate events.

Gate’s published timeline dates the international platform’s launch to October 2017. Its services developed around spot trading and later broadened to include derivatives and other digital-asset products.
